Society Suffers from Work-a-holism

 

Our current society has a hidden malaise, and its name is work-a-holism. Public discourse is rife with question of increasing productivity and work participation and so on. People want to drag old infirm and disable into workforce. All despite the fact that there is less and less meaningful work, as automation takes more and more roles that used to be manned by people.

Work of course can be useful, but only if it actually produces something of value. If its instead just waste time of everyone involved without producing anything, such work is pointless and harmful waste of time. 

In addition to wasting time and energy of participants it also provides an opportunity for abusive managers to go on power trip. Knowing full well outcomes does not matter, managers can force their subordinates do all sorts of demeaning tasks by threatening to fire them. Managers can also abuse and humiliate them with impunity.

Such behavior would lead towards employees becoming more radicalized and opposed to current society and economic system. Some of them might even end up committing suicide or go on a Columbine style shooting spree.

This is a serious issue that affect our society. We should take action to avoid situation getting out of hand.
